We cannot predict the future.

It does not matter how much time and thinking we invest in our future, it will never play out as we imagined and yet we spend countless hours in imaginary futures.

Life throws curveballs constantly. Uncertainty is the only thing that is certain. Covid 19 has not changed the unpredictability of the future in any way and yet, so many of us have outsourced our feelings and reactions to Covid.

Many people with underlying mental health problems are experiencing a heightened sense of uncertainty in business, finance, and schooling. We are learning to adapt on a daily basis. Having coached Leaving Cert students on and off since 2006, we have always coached students on practical responses to sitting the exams, understanding worry and stress etc. In 2019 and 2020, we completed an innovative training for young people; to teach them resiliency; resiliency around their thinking, emotions and reactions to stress.

Predictive grades with the option to sit the leaving cert in the future may prolong the uncertainty for students. What is apparent is the level of wellbeing that we attach to grades is not healthy for any young individual. The difficulty that happens is that we continue to attach our wellbeing to events, people or outcomes as we grow older and start working. We outsource our wellbeing to “praise”, positive feedback and results.

Intelligence is everywhere in nature, but we forget to notice it in ourselves. We are innately resilient. Unfortunately, with oversubscribed lives, young people tend to look outside for their wellbeing. They attach their wellbeing to good grades, “social media likes”, being sporty, popular etc and overlook the fact that they are born innately resilient. We work with young people to help them to see their innate resiliency. If you are not sitting the Leaving Cert or the Junior Cert - use this opportunity to learn a new response to life’s uncertainties.

The Resiliency Hub is responding to the uncertainty with a range of services. Click the link below to join our weekly zoom webinar for students and parents.
